After years of research, the Farm Bill passed in 2018 and made United States hemp cultivation federally regulated, essentially making hemp-derived CBD safe for the everyday consumer. In the time since, the CBD market has exploded.
When the Farm Bill passed it stated that, by law, CBD could contain up to .3% of THC (the psychoactive drug commonly found in the cannabis plant). While that may throw some people off, in actuality there is no need for concern. When looking at a company’s website, ensure that the CBD oil is American made using organic methods, U.S. Hemp Authority certified, and comes with a Certificate of Analysis (COA), pillars of a safe product.
But how do you know CBD oil is actually safe? It’s important to know what CBD oil is first.
Hemp oil and CBD oil are often confused. Hemp oil naturally comes from the seeds of hemp plants. It has no cannabinoids (CBD or THC) but meanwhile, as with many other nutty oils, contains healthy fats. CBD, on the other hand, comes from the aerial parts of the hemp plant (above ground). A CBD oil which is ‘full spectrum’ means it contains all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and essentially fatty acids found in the hemp plant.
WATCH HERE: IS CBD OIL SAFE?
CBD oil is used for anxiety, inflammation, pain reduction, sleep, and other issues. It’s non-toxic and non-addictive. Because CBD acts like a natural boost for your endocannabinoid system, one of the body’s master regulators, ingesting it on a daily basis helps to create or maintain homeostasis. That makes CBD oil safe. It works with the body’s own systems, not like taking that extra strength ibuprofen when you get a headache.
Many people incorporate CBD into a regular health regimen, like taking a daily vitamin. However, it is recommended that you always check with your physician to make sure products don’t interfere with any preexisting conditions, supplements, or prescription medications you are taking. Please note that because CBD was only recently legalized, long term medical studies have yet to be completed.
